Key points when lighting the stove
  • Use only kiln-dried logs.  You will need two or three (depending on size) placed in the stove as the base of your fire.
  • Then put some kindling on top and add one or two firelighters.
  • Ensure that the air vents are open by drawing open both vent controls (pull the two front-facing knobs at the below the door towards you).
  • Light the firelighters and leave the door just closed.  Once the the fire has caught, shut the door fully.  Remember to use the glove - the handle and the stove get very hot. 
  • Once the fire is going well, you can close the left-hand vent control.  The right-hand control can be used to control the rate of burn but note that as this is a modern efficient stove, it will not make a drastic difference to the burn rate. 
  • The control on the side of the stove is a riddle - pull it in and out to shake ash down into the ash-pan.  Our housekeepers will empty the ash-pan after your stay.  Ashes should not be taken through the house.  Do not attempt to empty the ash-pan when the fire is lit or the stove is still hot.
